/fast/
verb
Fasting, abstinence from food or drink or both for health, ritualistic, religious, or ethical purposes
Fasting or refraining from something is a beautiful way to add purpose to your life, focus on the basics, and eliminate distractions from your goals. While many fast for religious reasons, or for health benefits, I think it’s time society takes a closer look at the benefits and implements fasting periods more often.
Always start with the WHY and PURPOSE.
My fast: I am partaking in a 21-day fast, refraining from scrolling on social media and eating two or three meals during the day with no snacks consisting of primarily protein and whole foods.
My why: The church I go to is leading a group 21-day fast and prayer study in February. I am always seeking greater self-discovery and have been wanting to switch up my diet so I thought now is a good of a time as any. While I didn’t necessarily need a group to lead me through this, it is nice to feel like it’s a team effort and know others are powering through “with” me.
My greater purpose: My main focus while doing this is recognizing how valuable my time is and noticing how much time I spend scrolling (whether for inspiration or out of boredom) and taking snack breaks and not prioritizing satiating protein-rich meals. I really value my time and I wondered how much "useless" time I was spending day to day.
While I am not even a week in yet, I physically feel great and have been much more focused during work time.
